Rub elbows with the art crowd at the opening reception for Vox Populi's latest exhibit, VOX VI, the sixth annual show of work from up-and comers. Think of it like the Whitney Biennial, but on a smaller scale; most of the 33 featured artists hail from Pennsylvania, but some works have traveled from as far as Norway for the occasion. Be among the first to lay eyes on the goods on Friday, and return next Sunday the 18th for a discussion with the jurors (Brooklyn-based artists William Powhida and Jennifer Dalton) and the creators of the exhibited works. Friday 7/9, 6:00 p.m. - 11:00p.m. (Free!)

Since you probably did serious patriot overtime last weekend, it’s perfectly acceptable to briefly pledge allegiance to another flag - albeit one that’s still red white and blue. At this Saturday’s Bastille Day Street Festival, those who love all things French can peruse exhibit tents, sample French cuisine courtesy of local restaurants, and cheer on the contestants in the French-themed pet parade. Stay late to see Eastern State Penitentiary’s reenactment of the Storming of the Bastille, which features a Marie Antoinette who slings Butterscotch Krimpets. Saturday 7/10, starting at 2:00 pm (Free!)

With Penn Athletics games on hiatus for the summer months, you may long to see some contact sports close to home, namely, ones that don’t involve staring at a television screen. A true treat comes to campus this weekend, with Philly Roller Derby’s Warrior Cup Championship, hosted at our very own Class of 1923 Arena. The tattooed bad girls of Philly’s highest ranking teams will duke it out for the crowning glory. Don’t be fooled by their flashy spandex suits.; these women are tough-as-nails, and sometimes send the competition home in a stretcher. Saturday 7/10, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.($12/$25 VIP)
