Let’s be honest—fall is the best time of the year. You can pull out your sweaters without having to trek through snow, the leaves are changing colors, and there are fall activities galore. But all fall activities lead to the best of them all: Halloween. Whether you’re looking for exciting parties or more wholesome activities for the spookiest day of the year, Philly will provide.

If you want a wholesome activity:

October Twilight in the Gardens

Oct. 26, 7–10 p.m.

$16 for students

If you’ve never been to Philly’s Magic Gardens, or even if you have, there’s no better time than for the last of their Twilight in the Gardens series. Enjoy the beauty of the installation at night as you listen to live music. It is a BYOBBS event (Bring Your Own Booze, Blankets, and Snacks), so make sure to come prepared for a wholesome night with friends before the Halloween craziness.

If you want a good scare:

Terror Behind the Walls

Throughout October

$19–$45

If you’re looking for a haunted house, look no further. Terror Behind the Walls at the Eastern State Penitentiary is known as one of the best scares in the country. The event features six haunted attractions all included in one admission price. Even though it’s a little bit steep, there’s a special group discount if you can convince your friends to come with you. Warning—it is not for the faint of heart.

If you want to dress up:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Ritz at the Bourse

Oct. 26, 11:59 p.m.

$10.25

If you’re a Rocky Horror “virgin,” you’re missing out. Thankfully, you can go see the show right here in Philly. The actors of Transylvanian Nipple Productions will perform as the shadow actors as the movie is played on the big screen, giving the audience a truly interactive experience. So make sure to put on your best Rocky Horror themed costume and enjoy the show.

If you want to eat:

Halloween at Reading Terminal Market

Oct. 27, 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

Is there anything better than fall food? Celebrate Halloween by dining at Reading Terminal Market. The market will have a range of special activities from trick–or–treating to pumpkin carving to caramel apple making. Come with an empty stomach and get ready to enjoy goodies galore—because you’re never too old to enjoy Halloween treats (and tricks).

If you want to drink:

The Devil’s Bar Crawl

Oct. 27, 8 p.m.–2 a.m.

$7.95

If you’re of age and looking to have a fun night out, check out the Devil’s Crawl. For one small fee, you get access to over 50 bars with no cover fees and drink specials all night. In addition, everyone gets access to the exclusive after party at Gardendale Social Club, where you get your first drink free.
