8 Reasons Why Maggie Rogers Is Everything We've Ever Needed

If you haven't heard this name yet, read up — because Maggie Rogers is about to be everywhere. Her electro–folksy blends have us under a spell, and we're here to let you in on the magic.

1. She accidentally made Pharrell cry.

The viral video that launched Maggie Rogers’ career shows us a tender moment as Pharrell tears up upon listening to her song for the first time, calling it a “singular,” or perhaps more poignantly, a “drug.”

2. And that song is amazing.

"Alaska" is her breakout song, and it's just dope. The song is a spiritual journey. Listen to it and imagine yourself montage–style, conquering Mt. Denali.

3. She only has two other songs and somehow has almost 30 MILLION streams on Spotify.

Maggie continues to find an audience with “Dog Years” and her most recent release, “On + Off.” Listen to them here, over and over and over again.

4. She entered the music program at NYU as the "Banjo Girl."

Maggie’s rural roots come out in her melodic, narrative lyricism. Her songs blend beautiful harmonies with pulsating rhythms that intoxicate your eardrums and brain alike.

5. But she fell in love with EDM while studying abroad in France.

France is known as the country of romance for a reason. Merci beaucoup, Maggie, for blessing our ears with the unprecedented fusion of genres.

6. She’s a feminist, and she loves pink eye shadow.

In her own words, “I’m a producer, songwriter and performer from Brooklyn. I’m an optimist. I’m a feminist. I’m loud when I laugh. I’m freckled. I love my old jeans. I love pink eye–shadow. I cry when I dance sometimes. I feel a lot, maybe too much, but in a song it always seems to be just enough.”

How do you not want to be best friends with her?

7. Her social media presence is top notch.
