Around this time of year, it can seem like joining a frat is almost mandatory, so we understand if you’re feeling nervous. Succeeding throughout this week of constant man–flirting will prove to be no easy task, but as survivors of this process, we have some must–read tips for anyone who’s seeking to form the brotherly bond of a lifetime.

1. Use a cool catchphrase.

There’s nothing more important than being memorable. What better way to do so than showing off a fun, quirky and hilarious catchphrase? Some examples that have worked in past years include “Big Mama’s in the house,” “Life is agony!” and “Look at the ass on my sister!”

2. Tell brothers about your mom’s famous meatloaf.

Assert your dominance by proving that your mom’s the best.

3. Come up from behind brothers and tickle them.

Frat dudes love to squeal! Peek–a–boo is also an acceptable alternative.

4. Be sure to talk about what ointment your dad uses.

Is he a Neosporin guy or a Bengay guy? Weed out the brothers with ointment–less fathers with this fast and easy point of conversation.

5. Compose a list of your top five dining halls and share.

Be sure to print out enough copies for every brother to have one.

6. Brag about how little you studied for your finals first semester.

You don’t even care about school; you’re the man! Let everyone know it.

7. Talk about that time you peer reviewed a cute girl’s Nestorian outline for writing seminar.

First semester got wild!

8. Make a hilarious joke about the temperature in Hill.

This is uncharted territory. Somehow, no one’s made one of these yet... Until you steal the show.

9. Try to avoid telling brothers about the incident with Uncle Ronnie over break.

Crazy things always happen when Ronnie’s in town.

10. Check for ghosts.

The last thing you want is to join a brotherhood ridden with malignant specters. Bring your equipment and scan the house for any entities and inspect the general aura surrounding each brother as well. You can never be too safe.

11. Make sure to wear your NSO lanyard.

Wear it over or under your bow–tie. That part’s up to you.
