Album Review: "Spreading Rumours"—Grouplove

Grouplove’s choice to experiment more on their sophomore album, “Spreading Rumours,” further proves they are capable of more than 2011’s radio hit “Tongue Tied.” “Spreading Rumours” ranges from crooning to pulsing beats and back over 13 tracks, occasionally all in one song (“Shark Attack” or “Hippy Hill”), while more upbeat songs like “Ways to Go,” the lead single, are likelier to reach larger audiences. The second half of the album lacks the gusto of the first, but “Spreading Rumours” hits a perfect ending with a more natural sound in “Save the Party for Me.” It features the impressive blend of male and female vocals which brought Grouplove to the spotlight in the first place.
