Hollywood Goes Really Really Gay

Joke Issue: By Floyd Alistair Wallace Times sure ain’t peachy out there. Falling stocks, Dillinger’s violent escape from the Hotsquat and Dust Bowl winds that make the blizzard gusts in The Gold Rush look like hogwash are sure to make you want to crawl up in bed after collecting faggots for the fire. But don’t be a total pansy.

Deja Vu: I Ate My Shoe

Joke Issue: Let me tell you something: there ain’t a straight–shooter in Hollywood more ace than Charlie Chaplin! I was no butter–and–egg man before the crash.

The Gutter: 12.02.2010

Das Guttah is back from a brief hiatus with the biggest news of the semester — hell, the year: as a sighting in front of Tap House a fortnight ago confirmed, the infamous Coke Twins are back. Apparently, they’ve shacked up with their parents in the Philly area and plan on stopping by campus between shenanigans.

Overheards: 12.02.2010

Bearded Man on Beige: She should've known that a guy who has his name tattooed on his dick is bad news. Chick in a TriDelt hat: Maybe the rumors are true and I do have rabies! Friend: You’re not foaming at the mouth.

Dispatches: The Airport Affront

8:31 p.m.: I arrive at my flight’s gate frazzled from the stresses of getting through security, lugging two bags definitely much larger than your standard “one carry–on bag and one personal item.” (Sorry I’m not sorry.) I immediately spot a class of 2010 Brazilian Scene-ster to whom I’m relatively well acquainted — I’d say “Hello” if we bumped into each other on Locust, why not Hartsfield Jackson International Airport? 8:36 p.m: I plop down on the facing bench and start the small talk.

Just Another Jolly Night

Amid the bachelorette sashes, inebriated middle–aged couples and underagers, two slightly graying men sit at matching grand pianos.

Review: Wharton Esherick

The work of Wharton Esherick just asks to be ignored. Sitting in Van Pelt amongst angrily buzzing computers and tired students buzzed on caffeine, an art exhibition doesn’t stand a chance.

Out Of Theme

From toga parties to underwater raves, Penn loves a good theme party. And since this is the land of extremes, the more outrageous the better.

Review: Thefeast.com

Take a seat and indulge in the latest of “where to go” websites: thefeast.com. The premise of the site is to “take you to the best places to eat, shop and play in the city.” Luckily for us, Philadelphia is one of the cities on The Feast’s radar.

From The Editor: 12.02.10

Disclaimer: This letter, this one right here, has been particularly difficult to write. In fact, even amidst all the term papers and stupid class blog posts and application essays, I've never dreaded writing something more. I set out, at the beginning of Thanksgiving Break, determined to compose the best last "From The Editor" to ever grace the pages of any publication — bold and poignant and touching and smart.

Review: Jet Wine Bar

Within 24 hours of reopening the South Street Bridge, archaeologist Jill Weber gave West Philadelphians an intoxicating incentive to test the new pavement.

Review: Village Belle

Though it’s a bit of a trek from campus, Village Belle is worth an excursion to Front Street in Queen Village for its lovely atmosphere and solid fare.

The Best I Ever Ate!

Penn’s self–appointed foodies describe in great detail the most decadent, mouth–watering meals they've ever feasted on in Philly. The Dish: Lemon Cupcake ($3) The Place: Philly Cupcake (1132 Chestnut St.) The lemon cupcake from Philly Cupcake is the closest I’ve come to finding cupcake perfection in Philly.
