Playlists
Street's To-Do List: August 5
This Thursday, the Philly Improv Theatre will become a boxing ring for two dueling comedy troupes. CAGEMATCH pits returning champion trio “The Ones Your Mother Warned You About” against PHIT instructor Matt Holmes, who will pick an audience member to join him up on stage.
I Am Chef, Hear Me Roar
It’s hard to stop from wondering about the mindset behind naming a restaurant Adsum, the saucily titled solo venture of chef Matthew Levin, who’s run Philadelphia kitchens from the venerable Lacroix to the see-and-be-seen Rouge.
Shake It Like a Salt Shaker
Anyone who saw either of the Tomb Raiders might be inclined to think Angelina Jolie + action movie = awful monstrosity.
Lez (Not So) Miserables
The biggest surprise about The Kids are All Right, popularly billed as “that movie about the lesbian moms” is that it ends up being so much more than just that.

Street's To-Do List: July 29
If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent countless hours in front of the television drooling over the glorious hues of BBC’s Planet Earth.
Q+A - Netherfriends
Netherfriends is Shawn Rosenblatt, a 23-year-old Chicagoan-via-Suburban Philadelphia who produces buoyant psychedelic pop that ranges from frustrated to ecstatic in tone.
Q+A - Here We Go Magic
Born out of a bedroom psych-folk project by singer-guitarist Luke Temple, Here We Go Magic has bloomed into a buzzworthy indie rock act with two albums under its belt.
Hopelessly Devoted to You
When we think of devotion, we immediately conjure up religious bowing and scraping or I-can’t live-without-you love stories.
To Market, To Market
The Reading Terminal Market has some of the most satisfying lunch options in the city, and certainly the most varied under one roof.
The Edge of Darkness
Like a typical suburban family’s home, Dark Night of the Soul is a collaboration on multiple levels.
You Can Ring My Bell
For the most part, tracing the genealogy of most current cutting-edge bands is pretty straightforward.
Street's To-Do List: July 22
Unformal Wear, a local tee-shirt company that specializes in those tacky yet endearing tuxedo shirts, is hosting charity event, Rockin’ Cotton for a Cause, at the Field House to benefit cancer charity Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
A Real Porker
I wanted to label Le Cochon Noir as a diamond in the rough. The Philadelphia Business and Technology Center is not just an unassuming location, it’s practically out of the city limits (okay, maybe not, but how often do you find yourself at 50th and Parkside?). Inside, the space has a warehouse feel: exposed pipes, a completely open kitchen, and a floor that has paint stains from the last few incarnations of the building.
Papa Don't Preach
If you’re looking for something to make Summer 2010 last just a bit longer, Father of My Children (suprisingly not a story about baby daddies) will make you feel some excruciatingly long moments.
Stop Forkin' Around
CHICAGO — Over the past several years, the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago’s Union Park has valiantly worked to separate itself from the usual crop of summer festivals, attracting attendees with an ear for interesting bands and a yearning for more comfortable, personal concert experiences.
Street's To-Do List: July 15
As a part of Philadelphia’s QFest, Philadelphia’s LGBT film festival, Steve Brinberg will be performing his critically acclaimed Simply Barbra at the Arts Banks.
Playing Dress Up Every Day
Young aristocrats in elegant pearls and extravagant feathered headpieces laugh in unison over strong cocktails, flouting societal norms with their wild debaucheries as the world teeters on the brink of World War II.
Oh My Goddess
The sound that dominates today’s dance floor is a heady mixture of R&B and techno, whose building beats and naughty lyrics are best characterized by the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Ke$ha, the new divas of nightlife.
