1. We meet Adam’s sister – Caroline shows up in a whirlwind, having just been kicked out by her boyfriend. She is homeless, jobless, and penniless. Hannah, in all her glory of feeling mentally and financially sound (re: season 2), is ready to offer Caroline the spare bedroom in their apartment, to which Adam vehemently protests. Hannah heeds Adam’s warning but still invites Caroline to join the group for the evening. Sure she acts strange, but it’s strictly “GIRLS” strange until the evening culminates with Caroline breaking into Hannah and Adam’s apartment to be found standing half–naked in the bathroom and crushing a glass in her hand.

2. Marnie rocks out in a sweet, sweet music video – The video was made by ex–boyfriend (and dearly departed from the show) Charlie while they were dating and has now, post–breakup, made its way to the internet. It can only be described as a hybrid Rebecca Black/ Robin Sparkles deal, with hints of early Avril and Britney thrown in for good measure.

3. Hannah turns 25! – Wait 25, that’s practically a real person, but as Shosh points out, “It’s really amazing that the three of you have accomplished so little in the four years since college.” Preach sister! Hannah’s parents are in town and have teamed up with Marnie (who takes this event to make up for the last two episodes and prove she can still be just as annoying as ever) to throw a birthday bash for Hannah. Hannah mingles with friends we never knew she had, and a few we may have forgotten about (Laird, Hannah’s downstairs neighbor makes the invite list). The live band plays an electric ukulele, because of course they do.

4. Ray is just kind of sad – While professionally he is doing better than ever, everything else doesn’t seem so great. He is clearly still hung up on Shoshanna and after an awkward run–in with her new boyfriend confronts her and tells her they can’t be friends. To add injury to insult, Ray ends up getting in a fight with Hannah’s bizarre editor, David, who crashed the party—though the fight, thankfully, for everyone except Marnie, interrupts an awkward “RENT” duet being sung between her and Hannah.

5. Adam gives Hannah his tooth turned into a necklace - I think that speaks for itself.

While perhaps not as on–point as the previous two episodes, it was a solid and necessary installment—setting up storylines for the rest of the season that are sure to have all of our favorite girls in various states of disarray.
