The best part of 10 Things I Hate About You is, hands down, Ms. Perky, the headmistress slash aspiring erotica novelist. “What’s another word for ‘engorged?’” She asks, trying out ‘swollen’ and ‘tumescent’ before finally settling on “Reginald’s quivering member.”

While this scene may leave you “undulating with desire,” why stop at the movies? Philly’s got you covered next week at the monthly session of The Erotic Literary Salon.

The gathering takes place on the third Tuesday of every month at L‘Etage Cabaret at 6th and Bainbridge. At the meetings, erotica enthusiasts each take five minutes to read their own original steamy stories or share excerpts from other authors they enjoy. Not ready to share your — ahem — literature with the world? Guests are more than welcome to sit and listen to others, as long as you’re willing to pay the $10 cover to get in.

Next week’s reading will feature a special guest: a resident nonagenarian (she’s 91 years old, people) will read her erotica to the crowd. The event starts at 8:30 but doors open at 7:30, so you may want to arrive early as seats tend to fill up quickly at these popular readings. And while erotica is intended for an over-18 audience, the venue requires all attendees to flash some ID — after-dinner drinks mean 21 and up.

If you’ve never read erotica before, check out this gem for a unique cultural experience. While some may confuse the two, erotica is not pornography, even if the lines are sometimes blurred. Its goal is to portray human sexuality and anatomy in a high art form. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it, and if you happen to be undulating by the time you leave the salon, well, Ms. Perky would be proud.
