Mark Paraskevas (C ’17) packs the same thing for lunch every day: “a chicken gyro basically, with like pita bread and spinach and cheese. I just cook a lot of chicken in advance.” In between hours spent at the studio, Mark, a former The Daily Pennsylvanian and Street staffer, is a high school teacher in New York City with the two–year placement program Teach For America.

Three Fridays ago, I went to a concert with a group of friends, having bought tickets together months in advance. My friend, in a panic, texted me beforehand urgently, “what are u wearing tonight?? I always worry irrationally about what to wear to concerts.” I responded by detailing the tried and true uniform I’ve adopted for concert–going: comfy jeans that don’t restrict mobility; a neutral tank top to keep cool amongst sweaty crowds; a jacket with secure, zippered pockets so my belongings don’t fly out; and most essentially, my platform converse sneakers for optimum dancing and the edge that the extra couple inches lend in a general–admission free–for–all.

I’m quick to define myself as a “coffee–person,”—ubiquitous on college campuses, usually pitted against the “tea–types.” Coffee is my lifeblood, but I have to admit that tea has a special place in my heart (and palate) as well. There are so many memories, so many past tenses, that I’ve forged through each of these two beverages.

PHILLY DILLY! (Did I do that right??) As the city has been throwing a week–long party in the wake of the Eagles' Sunday Super Bowl win, getting in the Philly spirit hasn't been too difficult. From storming Broad Street after the game to the darty—I mean, parade—Jim Kenney threw for us on Thursday, it's been impossible to escape the throaty chants and off-key crooning of fans across the city. The official victory chant "Fly, Eagles, Fly" has been deliciously interspersed with verses of Meek Mills' "Dreams and Nightmares" more times than your ears would have thought imaginable. I know you're definitely not tired of either of those songs yet, but get this: there are loads of great (and some not so great) Philly related songs out there. A whole playlist worth, in fact. We've got everything from your throw back faves (Boyz II Men, Hall and Oates) to lesser known babes (Japanese Breakfast, Whitney, The War on Drugs). Oh, and also, pretty much every song ever to have Philadelphia in the title.

When you have a broken wrist, everyone immediately notes the stark white cast. It’s understood that you can’t write while you’re healing. And when the kid next to you in lecture asks what happened, you laugh and tell him how you fell off your bike when you almost ran over the cutest puppy ever. When have a mental illness, you bear no cast. And you don’t exactly go yelling your condition from rooftops, or lightheartedly tell the classmate the way you “totally slept for like, 18 hours straight this weekend!”

The Great Migration that Staples and Target ads warn us about all summer is upon us: Back To School. You’ve made the journey yourself after you said goodbye to your summer fling, Manhattan internship and parents. Say hello again to your roommates, BYOs, classes and of course, Street. You’re back at dear old Penn and we’ve got the tunes to toast to.
