Consider Flinging with College senior and FlingSafe emeritus Josh Matz. He's infectious.
Street: Looking forward to Fling?
Joshua Matz: I don't think I've done Fling since freshman year.
Street: Where did you live freshman year?
JM: I was in the Quad in the residential program for the study of emerging infectious diseases. I was E. coli. But my next door neighbor was Chlamydia, so I had it better. I was only potentially fatal.
Street: Nice.
JM: The best part was that next to us was the Women in Science program, which was in Coxe.
Street: Are you going to go back to drink in your hall?
JM: I don't understand why people are so into going back to their hall. I bonded with my hall, but my hall isn't there anymore. It's not like I bonded with my door.
Street: So what have you done for other Flings?
JM: Sophomore year I did a FlingSafe shift. And then last year I spent ten hours each day [doing FlingSafe] in McClelland Hall with Stephanie Ives and Penn Police officers.
Street: Why would people do Fling Safe?
JM: Some do it for the shirt. Others do it for the power trip. Those are the ones who get disappointed, because there is no power trip. But the walkie-talkies are kind of sexy.
Street: Aside from a walkie-talkie, what other accessory would you like to carry around?
JM: I'd love to have a pocket-sized feminist civil rights advocate to take out and have bitch out other people on appropriate occasions.
