As its name cleverly does not suggest—leaving that last word hanging on the tip of your tongue like Jack at 2:51:06 of Titanic—Hot Diggity serves...dogs! All kinds of dogs, in fact—repping every town from Philly to Seattle, back to the Bronx. This summer, try their Farmer’s Dog ($5, with pickled tomatillos, fire roasted corn & jala- peño salsa, fried tortilla strips and queso fresco) peppered wth fresh local ingredients. And then try everything else. Vegetarian and vegan options are available for all your hipster friends going through their experimental kosher Buddhist phase.

SHAKE SHACK
We all love Shake Shack, so we’re happy to re- port that their dogs are above average, at least as far as taste is concerned. It’s not quite up to the level of a ballpark dog but a lot like the best dog
you’ll ever get at a barbecue. The bun is a little too thick, but toasted, so that’s a plus and the link is cooked thoroughly and evenly. The Shack charges $3 for these, which is pretty cheap for the quality you’ll get. For a slightly increased price, you can top your dog with things like Shack cheese sauce and Rick’s Picks Shack Relish.

WHITE DOG CAFE
No need to venture out of University City — our beloved White Dog Café dishes out high- quality sausages from a local, humane farm and tops them with unexpectedly delicious fixings. Go for the German Shepherd: rich Keilbasa sausage smothered in braised red cabbage and spicy brown mustard and accented with sour cream and chives. Makes for an earthy and decadent mid-afternoon treat ($7.25, off the bar menu).

Grab one of Underdogs’ 23 varieties, from a Texas Tommy (sausage wrapped in bacon, fried, topped with cheese...whut?!) to the slightly more figure-friendly California Dreamin’ (topped with avocado, tomato and lemon mustard vinaigrette). This Underdog shines at its simplest: The Underdog, a perfectly grilled beef sausage on a bun, is juicy and packed with meaty punch ($3.25 for the dog, $6.25 for a combo with fries and a soda).
