Earlier this year, Kendrick Lamar's record label, Top Dawg Entertainment, signed a young rapper from Chattanooga, Tennessee by the name of Isaiah Rashad. He subsequently released a single “I Shot You Down” that has an airy, West Coast flute-led beat with one of the catchiest hip-hop choruses of the year. The song got even better last week when Rashad released the remix, a 7-minute version with labelmates ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock delivering excellent verses. The song was already great, but it’s much improved thanks to Jay’s hard-hitting verse about his upbringing, and ScHoolboy brought his usual fun yet angry flow, while also revealing the release date for his long-delayed album “Oxymoron.” If you missed the original version of this song when it came out, definitely go straight to this version.
