What better way to celebrate summer than by treating yourself to freshly painted nails? From bright corals to softer neutral tones, nail polish is a great way to elevate any summer look.  So if you've been looking to touch up your toes this sandal season, below are five must–try nail salons in Philadelphia.

Luxe Nail Bar – Practically on campus, good place to SABS

Most Penn students who are passionate about getting their nails done have tried Luxe Nail Bar. Sandwiched between Smokey Joe’s and HipCityVeg on 40th Street, Luxe is a University City go–to. In fact, it's pretty likely you'll bump into someone you know while there. Being a campus favorite with limited seating, you should call in advance and make a reservation to book an appointment. Though it does not boast the highest ratings on this list, the staff is friendly and gets the job done and you avoid a long walk or a pricey Uber ride.

Coco Blue Spruce – Top Rated

Coco Blue Spruce is a trusted favorite among locals. Located in the Avenue of the Arts district in Center City, Coco Blue is one of the top–rated nail salons in Philadelphia. Coco Blue is on the bottom floor of the Center City One Condo Complex and is just five blocks from City Hall. Its location makes for the perfect stop while exploring Center City. The nail artists ensure that your manicure or pedicure is impeccable with their patience and attention to detail. Though it’s a ways from campus, students that have made the trek consider it worth it. The walk doesn’t feel so long on a beautiful summer day.

Tip Top Nails – Best for fun nails

In the past several months, having your nails done has transitioned from a self–care check-the-box to a widely utilized form of self–expression. Flaunting fun, over–the–top nails is the latest trend, whether it be colorful french tips or intricate prints. Tip Top Nails is the place to go for a flirty summer–themed design. You don’t have to feel bashful if you ask for something unique–fun nails are their specialty! Make a day of it and cool off with an ice cream or smoothie from Reading Terminal Market across the street. But note: Tip Top does not take walk–ins as their policy is appointments only.

Blue Nail – Champagne and mimosas!

What could be better than unwinding after a hard week by sipping on champagne and being primped? Blue Nail offers wine, tea, champagne, and mimosas during your service. Beyond this, reviews rave about the quality of their manicures and pedicures. The perfect way to spend a summer day, whether it be during an outing with a friend or by yourself if you need a break (we all do sometimes).

Lacquer Lounge – Advocate of ethical working conditions

After a New York Times exposé about the harsh and dangerous working conditions that those who work at nail salons are exposed to, Lacquer Lounge committed itself to promoting change. Lacquer Lounge prioritizes the health and wellbeing of their staff, ensuring a fair work environment. They’ve implemented extensive cleaning and sanitation procedures that benefit both their customers and their staff. The salon is two floors–the main floor offers traditional pedicure methods, while the lounge offers completely waterless services. Unfortunately, Lacquer Lounge is a ways from campus, but if you find yourself in Old City you should certainly pay a visit and support their cause.
