Amidst the uncertainty and ambiguity that accompanies every new year, there is one constant we can always count on. As redundant or annoying as these shows may be, we can’t help but love them in all their glamorous and superficial glory. And the upcoming award shows are...

SAG Awards When: Jan. 25 on TNT and TBS What: The only awards show to honor performers exclusively, SAG presents 13 awards for film and television acting. Who: The ballot for the SAG Awards goes out to the more than 100,000 members of the Screen Actors Guild. Nominations are voted on by two randomly selected panels of 2100 SAG members.

Grammys When: Feb. 8 on CBS. What: The Grammys were originally called The Gramophone Awards (don’t worry, we didn’t get it either.) and continue to celebrate achievements in the recording industry. These peer presented awards are given without regard to album sales or chart position. Who: The Grammys are given out by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, an organization of musicians, producers and other recording professionals.

Razzies When: Feb. 21; awards are always presented one day before the Oscars. What: The Golden Raspberry Awards (as in, “blowing a raspberry”) celebrates (read: slanders) the worst of the film industry. Who: Awards are voted on by the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation. Membership is open to the public. Understandably, the Razzies usually go without acceptance. A few celebrities, such as Bill Cosby, have chosen to break this trend, however, and have claimed their prize. Ben Affleck received (and subsequently broke) his trophy for worst actor on Larry King Live.
