Period television is where it's at

Sick of life in the 21st century? Check out these other period dramas for a temporary time warp.

The Tudors: There's something undeniably sexy about absolute monarchy — especially when Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays the lusty King Henry VIII. Considering the unhealthy living standards of the time, there's no way the Tudor court could have been that good looking. But don't question it. Just enjoy the scandals and over-the-top sex scenes of these British royals.

Rome: Ancient history is way more interesting with beefy men in leather tunics and women scantily clad in togas. This series cashes in on that concept more tastefully than 300 and with more of a historical focus than Gladiator. But don't worry! There's still plenty of nudity and violence. After all, it's not PBS, it's HBO.
