Summer may seem far, far away, but the clock is ticking on those internship applications. Penn has tons of valuable resources to help you obtain internships and research jobs, and make some dough along the way. Goldman isn't the only place that wants to give you cash money.

RealArts@Penn The writing department loves making connections between Penn students and those in the creative arts world. Past recipients have interned at the likes of Rolling Stone, MTV Networks, Brooklyn Films and Grand Central Publishing. By applying to be a RealArts intern, Penn students sign up to do real, substantive work over the summer, as opposed to being a coffee gopher at a publishing house. One huge perk is the $2,500 stipend — rare in an industry where paid internships are few and far between. One thing to note: preference is given to sophomores and juniors.

Penn Undergraduate Urban Research Colloquium This program supports a joint faculty-student research project and a semester-long, credit-bearing seminar (CPLN 528/URBS 428). Funding is available to students in the spring semester of their sophomore or junior year. Grants of up to $2,000 are given to fund the research, though students or faculty may not see the cash unless they participate in ongoing summer studies.

Gelfman International Summer Fund Students who have study plans involving international research should seek out this program. Funding is available for students the summer before their senior year, and the guidelines are open-ended, so subjects of study can be pretty much whatever you want them to be.

School of Engineering Undergraduate Research Fund This fund gives Engineering undergrads grants for research and summer internships related to the fields of their choice. Everything from recent technology to applied sciences is fair game.

The Thune Summer Travel Fellowship Fund If you’re a junior majoring or minoring in Art History, this fellowship is tailor-made for you. Students have to talk with a faculty adviser to discuss exactly what their research will entail, as well as put together a travel itinerary that explores the theme of the project. Awards do not usually exceed $2,500, but that should be enough to get you where you want to go.
