Facebook isn’t just a way for us to keep tabs on our friends—it’s now also our primary news site. The Pew Research Center found that 61 percent of millennials receive political news from Facebook, as opposed to television and other sources. As a result, Facebook is now taking steps to
become more involved in the news that gets posted, shared and liked on its
website.

You've heard the complaints about teenagers and
technology. Parents warn against the dangers of spending too much time on the
internet, advising children to go outside, get fresh air and exercise. Professors designate appropriate times to use laptops. Older
generations criticize our frequent use of smartphones.

What if there was a way to diagnose a medical problem
without walking into a doctor’s office? Like WebMD, but more accurate and
less likely into scaring you into thinking you have a brain tumor. Technology is being developed to intervene and provide quicker, more accurate
diagnoses without having to make an appointment—medical opinions without having to go to medical professionals.

Last Friday will forever be
remembered as the day I entered
the twenty–first century. On that
day I ventured to 16th and Walnut
Streets and bought myself an iPhone
7. My friends breathed a sigh of
relief—now I could pass for a semi–functional human being. Before, I
had an iPhone 5 named Brick. Brick
wouldn't let me download apps or
use Uber. Brick died whenever I was
drunk, alone or in danger.
During freshman Fling I saw
my life flash before my eyes. I was
at Qdoba with a suspicious soldier
named Kegan and couldn't find my
way back to King's Court. Brick
flashed low battery as I waited for
nine friends to come collect me.
Brick died as I crouched behind a
condiments counter hiding from
my stalker.

I am sometimes concerned about whether I would be able to practice my religion as frequently or as well without technology. Would I read the
Qu’ran as frequently if it wasn’t online? Would I be able to understand, pronounce and recite verses if it wasn’t for the translations and transliterations
on quran.com? Would I be able to remember to pray at the right times without the notifications that pop up on my phone screen? How would I know
which direction to face while praying without the Qibla function on my Athan app? It is a little surprising just how much I rely on technology to do
something as spiritual as praying or reading and understanding holy texts, and yet these tasks would be so much harder for me to perform without it.

I’m going to be a junior this fall, but my sister is going to be a high school senior, which means we’ve spent a lot of time this summer researching and visiting colleges, with me tagging along on the slew of college tours. I only went on one college tour before applying to college in high school, and only one official tour after being accepted for a transfer– so even though I've gone through the college admissions process twice, this whole college touring thing was still new to me. Here are my takeaways:

Last week, Street told the story of a student transferring from Penn to a different school. This week, we hear from a student transferring to our campus, ready to wear the Red and Blue for the first time. This is her story.

As I was getting ready to go home this summer, I made a mental checklist of what to do during my layover in London Heathrow Airport. I could picture the airport– I knew where everything was, every detail mapped out. Heathrow has become a consistent part of my breaks and my semester, and a layover there has become as familiar and routine to me as buying books at the start of the semester. I feel more at home in an airport than I do in most cities.
