Between 2001 and 2014, Vedge and V Street owners Kate Jacoby and Rich Landau opened two restaurants, outgrew two others and wrote four cookbooks. But they didn’t dare make a cheesesteak. They may not eat meat, but the reigning royalty of the Philadelphia vegan food scene knew that the city’s iconic cheesesteak is a sandwich that demands to be taken seriously. Two years ago, they got serious.

Revered by as some as an art form, sexting is an activity
feared by PTA moms and slippery politicians alike. Call it love or pheromones in
the air, but we at Penn seem to be especially adept at taking advantage of the opportunities
technology presents in our love lives. (Back in October, Philly Mag told us
that students at Penn got more right swipes on Tinder than any other Ivy
Leaguers.) So what can we learn from our campus Casanovas about how to send the
perfect sext—and who to send it to?

It’s still light outside at 3 p.m., but Atlantis is dark and windowless. On the dimly lit stage, a beautiful woman shakes and spins her way through the end of her routine. As she lithely walks back down the three stairs to the strip club’s floor, she’s already scouring the small crowd for men who might want a private dance. If she can convince them to pay for just four minutes of her time, she’ll make $15.

I can’t wait to be a mother someday. Seriously. You know that baby fever that women in rom–coms can’t seem to ever shut up about as they approach their (gasp!) 30th birthdays? I’ve had that since I was 12. I don’t think I could ever give up my career to take care of kids, but I know that when it comes to balancing, my future family will always be my first priority. I’ll even (much to the chagrin of my all–girls prep school) choose my family over personal accomplishment to a certain point, if I'm faced with such a decision.

On
9:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, while other cities were still sleeping off
their New Year’s Eve hangovers, Philadelphia was revving up. The annual Mummers Parade, which has shut down some of Philadelphia’s biggest streets since
1901, is a beloved fixture of the city.

With the rush of new activities available at the start of this semester, it might suddenly seem as if your night's fun depends on the cash in your wallet. Benny Frank's taught us well, however, because if there’s one thing all Quakers share, it’s the desire to save a few bucks. When you're prepping for your next night on the town, check out some of Penn's best memories of frugal fun.

There’s a long–standing association between the idea of The Penn Face—the phenomenon of having to put on a mask of confidence, happiness, awakeness, ok–ness—and mental health awareness. The creators of Penn Faces, a small group of five students lead by Emily Hoeven (C '18), came together nearly a year ago, hoping to separate the two ideas.

I used to sleep with two comfort
items: “Pooh” (a stuffed pooh bear with long–faded lettering on his red shirt)
and the cleverly named “Pillow” (a small pink pillow with a pouch trimmed in
lace). It didn’t feel right to bring them with me when I started college—I had
NO idea what I’d be getting up to in my Quad double, but was fairly certain that
I wouldn’t want the two most important objects of my childhood to be privy to
any of it. They (and I) were still suffering from the trauma of a jarring
afternoon 8 years earlier at summer camp, when I returned to my bunk to find that
another girl had laid them on the floor in the middle of a circle of red duct
tape with an “X” going through the center.

To call Philadelphia’s new Whole Foods a supermarket feels wrong. Located behind the Rodin Museum at 2101 Pennsylvania Ave., the new flagship location for the chain’s entire Mid–Atlantic region is an attraction unto itself. With floor–to–ceiling glass windows overlooking the Parkway and freshly wood–paneled walls inside the massive entrance, shopping here will make you feel fresher than trendy Whole Foods produce (in case you missed it, mini artichokes are a thing now).

Whether you’re setting up your first post–graduation bachelor pad or struggling to decorate your Rodin slice of heaven, shopping for household goods can be tricky. In a day and age where one simple trip to Ikea can end in roommates taking out restraining orders on one another, it can be pretty hard to find a reasonably priced place to shop that keeps the whole squad happy. That’s why Street found the perfect place to pick up household goods that everyone will be able to agree on: Condom Kingdom. It turns out that everyone’s favorite South Street sex shop has a lot more to offer than just funky rubbers.

If there’s ever been a time and place for fratty beer enthusiasts and your neighborhood cat lady to come together, this is it. Tomorrow (September 16th), Yards Brewery and City Kitties, a nonprofit, no–kill cat rescue, are teaming up for this month’s hottest (shout–out to the heat wave) way to drink for a cause. From 7–11 p.m., attendees can drink to their hearts’ content and munch on grub from a solid lineup of food trucks, with a large portion of the profits donated to City Kitties

Didn’t go abroad? Never fear, you uncultured swine. While all of your friends in Europe are enjoying a healthy dose of schadenfreude every time they imagine you slugging your way down Locust, you can make our damp city feel exactly like that cute European hotel you swear you’re going to visit during Fall Break.

We get it– being an adult is hard. Fun and impressive though your internship may be, humans can only handle so many hours a day on Excel. By this point in the summer, some of you have reached your wit’s end.

Ask anyone what their favorite time of the year is at Penn, and two special springtime days will come to mind. During this holy time, our campus is more active than ever, as party–happy people flood into the Quad, looking for little more than a chance to skip class and get drunk off of their love for Penn (and sips of six-month-old Quad-ka).

Good luck keeping up with
Kat Sicat. In addition to dancing
for City Step, Strictly Funk
and Penn Dance, she took a semester
off to play rugby for the
Philippines' national team. No
wonder she was voted 'Most
Intimidating' in high school.
