Junior Maura Goldstein, Penn’s resident locally grown foodie, is trying to revamp Penn students’ eating habits through FarmEcology and PennGreen. This eco-friendly superstar is moving mountains and canoeing through life.

Street: What don’t most people know about you?

Maura Goldstein: Despite my last name and institution of choice, I’m just your average shiksa.

Street: There are two types of people at Penn, those who___ and those who___?

MG: Those who will trade me a wheat and a sheep for a brick and those who have no idea what that means.

Street: Last purchase?

MG: A mothball-scented sweater from Second Mile. Laundering has only marginally improved the smell.

Street: Any guilty pleasures?

MG: The dough of whatever I am baking. And Fleetwood Mac. Simultaneously.

Street: You’ve just arrived at your 10-year college reunion. What would people be most surprised to hear about you?

MG: That I’m there. And I came by canoe.

Street: If you could have a superpower for a day what would it be?

MG: Moving mountains. To West Philly. Then it would be perfect.

Street: Who would win in a celebrity death match, Aramark or Bon Appetit?

MG: Bon Appetit. Good food is crucial to kicking ass.

Street: Most memorable moment of your college experience thus far?

MG: Hilarity in the HUP ER circa Fling 2008.

Street: Which is a more difficult feat, bringing locally grown food to Penn or creating a genetically modified vegatable? MG: Probably genetically modifying a vegetable — but who really wants that? There is plenty of locally grown food for the eating in Philly.
